How to make the right choice while choosing Niche ?

As you already know, finding a profitable niche in the affiliate marketing business is vital to success. In this reading section you’ll learn how to choose the right one.

How to choose a niche?

In the perfect scenario, your niche should be your area of expertise or at least something you’re familiar with. Do you know everything there is to know about gaming? Then you should promote some gaming offers. This way you will be able to do it honestly, convincingly and, hopefully, effectively.

To help yourself find the right niche, you can ask yourself these questions:

What do I care enough about to spend time on every single day?

What affiliate products can be connected to this field? What is the average conversion rate for these products? What are the average payouts?

No matter what niche you choose, learn as much as you can about it. By putting in more time and effort upfront, you will increase your chances of success in the future.

Use the web to get to know your target audience, find out what they are searching for. If you can provide value for people, build credibility, and help them solve their problems – you’re on the right path.

1. Find a product Niche

First, you will have to decide on a vertical you want to advertise in. You may follow a topic that you already know a lot about or try to find the hottest trend right now using some of the techniques described below:

Use Alexa’s free tool called Top Sites to find out what topics are popular right now. Skip the typical Internet giants such as Google and YouTube, go to the second or third result page and see what kind of pages people are visiting. You will be able to deduce the most interesting topics. For example, if you see a lot of travel-related websites, maybe you can explore this vertical.

Use Google Trends to discover what interests people in a given area. Select the correct Geo and check go to trending searches.

Amazon’s popular products are a great way to learn about people’s needs. You can view interesting products and view related products. The popular products usually don’t need advertising but related products may use an advertising bump from an affiliate marketer.

2. Locate a niche

Once you have decided on the vertical, it’s time to narrow down your search to a concrete niche. Research your vertical to locate a well-defined niche.

Go to Quora and look for spaces related to your vertical. Look for questions with a lot of engagement to narrow down your search to a smaller niche. Quora is great because it hosts questions that weren’t answered by Google. This makes it a great tool for finding a niche. If your chosen vertical is ‘travel’ then your niche may be for example, ‘green travel’.

Use Answer The Public to know what problems people have. Type in terms such as ‘travel’ or ‘fishing’ and see what questions are asked. A popular question may indicate a problem people may have and a solution your offer can provide.

At this point you may also go through the offers in an affiliate network and see if any of them match your search.

3. Verify a concrete product idea

Visit forums and social media sites and proactively ask questions about an offer type you think people would be interested in. Ask directly:

“Do you think that anyone would be interested in purchasing a travel guide on green travel?”

Or more generally:

“Do you think green travel will be an important trend in the future?”.

If the feedback is positive, look for offers from that specific niche.

How to know if the niche will be profitable?

If you have an idea for your niche but you’re not sure if it’s the right choice, take a look at these indicators of a healthy market:

Your niche should be narrow and specific – You need to know exactly who you are talking to. If you talk to everyone, you reach no one.  You should have competition – This actually is a good sign, contrary to what you may think. Every niche has already been discovered, it is very unlikely that you will be the first one to do so. If no one is marketing the niche you chose, it may indicate that it’s not profitable.Your niche should have lots of easy-to-find potential customers – You should try to find a niche in which people are willing to spend money i.e. sports, health, dating, pets etc. There’s a lot of offers to choose from and it doesn’t stop there – You need to make sure you have choices and a new offer as a backup in case the first one dies out.

If you’re able to find a niche that goes in line with those four indicators, and moreover, is something you like – this could be the right choice for you.

Why should you stick to one niche?

As it is often said “Better to be a master of one trade than a novice in many.”

This can be directly applied in the affiliate marketing field. The more time you spend on a specific niche, the more you get to know your audience, their interests, needs and behavior.
